Who It’s For

Most linear gas fireplaces give you a long, low ribbon of flame—wide enough to notice, never tall enough to matter, so from across the room the fire reads as an accent instead of the reason the room exists. You need a fire with real height, not just width. If you’re building or remodeling a wall where the fireplace is the design, the Ortal FR 60HH is the one. It builds into a framed wall, so plan for finish work as part of the job; choose a standard-height unit instead and the fire will always play second to whatever hangs above it.

What Makes It Special

The Front Facing line comes in three glass heights, and HH is the tallest of them—nearly two and a half feet of flame behind five feet of glass. From the couch, this isn’t a strip of fire set into the wall. It’s a bonfire behind glass.

The design is frameless, so your tile or stone runs right to the edge of the fire, and Ortal’s Passive Cool Wall Technology keeps the wall directly above cool enough to hang a TV or artwork. The fireplace looks like part of the wall, not an appliance set into it. A heat barrier comes with the unit—micro mesh screen or a double glass version—so the viewing glass is protected for kids and guests.

The remote does the tending for you: set 70 and the fireplace holds the room there on its own, run a programmed schedule, or manage it from your phone with the MyFire app. Interior lighting with a dimmer means the firebox stays part of the room even when the flame is off.

Possible Downsides

• The black reflective interior is an add-on, not standard equipment.
• Configurations with double glass or interior lighting require household power, so those setups won’t run during a power outage.
• The remote needs to stay within 26 feet of the fireplace; if it loses contact for more than three hours, the flame steps down to pilot on its own.
